Remembering South African Celebrities We Lost to Suicide: Mental Health Awareness



Just like marching in the streets, the old-yet-affective South African solution we apply when we are faced with such dilemmas, we are continuing the fight in our spaces.  We are remembering the mistakes made which taught us not to repeat the cycle but rather break the chain.

1. Rikhado "Riky Rick" Makhado (20-06-1987 to 23-02-2022)





The renowned rapper, music producer, songwriter and entrepreneur, well known for hit-song like Boss Zonke and Amantombazane. Riky Rick passed on at the age of 34 on the 22nd of February, 2022 in Johannesburg, Gauteng.


2. Patrick Molefe Shai (09-12-1956 to 22-01-2022)




The veteran actor and activist, Patrick Molefe Shai was best know for the role of Jakes in Sophiatown at the Market Theatre back in 1986. He lost his life in the 22nd of January, 2022.


3. Jabulani "HHP" Tsambo (14-09-1980 to 24-08-2018)




HHP (Hip-Hop Pantsula) was best known for his hit song "Bosso" which sparked his stardom. He passed on at the age of 38 in the 24th of October, 2018.


4. Fiona Coyne (22-06-1965 to 18-07-20)





Well known as The Weakest Link tv presenter, Fiona Coyne was also an author and actress. She passed at the age 45 at her home.


5. Shoki Mokgapa (17-08-1984 to 26-09-2018)





The SAFTA winning actress best know for her roles in Intersexions and Ashes to Ashes. She passed on the 26th of September, 2018.



6. Ebenhaezer Dibakwane (24-01-1994 to 07-03-2025)





Ebenhaezer was an actor an a comedian. He passed on the age of 31 on the 7th of March, 2025.
